Description
Kava or kava-kava (piper methysticin: Latin “pepper” + Latinized Greek “intoxicating” which translates directly into “intoxicating pepper”) has its origins in the pepper family. When brewed traditionally, it is known for its robust, earthy flavor that often times has a spice and a subtle bite to it. Kava is known to be a natural antidepressant, anti-anxiety, and muscle relaxer. One might say, “it relaxes your body while focuses your mind.” When you drink your first cup you will immediately feel the bite of the root, which magnifies its local anesthetic properties. One might feel a tingling of the tongue or a numbing of the lips.
This effect is a telltale sign as to whether you are drinking good, strong kava. Along with these other benefits, after enough kava is consumed, it can bring about a certain amount of euphoria that is indescribable. Some would describe it as love or each other and openness of the heart they hadn’t felt before. In larger doses, it is also known to be an aphrodisiac. Kava has been consumed for over 3,000 years and originates out of the South-Pacific. It is a root that is steeped in water, brewed, and then the root is strained to leave you with pure traditional kava. We are proud of the Kava Collective to bring you a traditional brewing process that has worked for thousands of years.
After kava is prepared, the South Pacific Islanders would gather for their ritualistic kava ceremony. Tribe members would circle up and drink this sacred tea while setting an intention, almost like a meditation, for what they needed to find internally or externally during the ceremony. Kava’s greatest benefit may be the ability to tap into the soul and allow someone to find the issues they need to work on. Everyone in the group would raise their shells and say “BULA!’ which the Fijian word for life, and drink as one. When you walk into Kava Collective one of the first things you will notice will be large groups of people raising their cups and saying BULA!
